Huskers Win Columbia 300 Saints Invitational
Chesterfield, Mo.- The Nebraska women’s bowling team took first place at the Columbia 300 Saints Invitational. The Huskers managed an 11-2 record and total pinfall of 14,381.
The Huskers started the day off with a traditional match against Lincoln (MO), taking down the Blue Tigers 1,012-854. This victory sent the NU to play third-seed Central Missouri and Lincoln Memorial to play McKendree for a spot in the championship match. The Huskers took down Central Missouri 4-3, earning a spot in the final match. Lincoln Memorial defeated McKendree, securing a rematch against the Huskers for the tournament title.
The Huskers started slow, dropping the first two matched 170-210 and 180-223. The Huskers bounced back with a victory 187-169 before falling once more 182-244. The Huskers dominated the final three matches, beating the Railsplitters 211-164, 238-165 and 217-190.
Senior Meghan Straub led the Huskers in the individual standings with her average of 232.33, good for second place. Following close in the standings, Raquel Orozco finished in sixth with her average of 222.67
“Very challenging lane conditions for the third tournament in a row,” said Head Coach Bill Straub, “Fortunately this time, adjustments and execution were more effective. Seemingly, development is heading in the right direction.”
The Huskers will return to the lanes next Friday through Sunday at the Prairie View A&M Invitational.
