NU Beats Creighton for Third Straight Win
Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska men's tennis (6-4, 0-0 Big Ten) completed its three-win weekend sweep with a 4-2 triumph over Creighton (1-5, 0-1 Big East) on Sunday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center. The Huskers had previously defeated Denver, 4-3, on Saturday and Omaha, 4-0, earlier on Sunday.
NU has hosted Creighton every year since 2007, winning all 13 matches since then. The Huskers advanced to 42-2 all-time against the Bluejays.
Freshman William Gleason picked up his fourth win of the season in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Armando Gandini at the No. 3 spot for Nebraska's first win of the night, as the Bluejays had earned the doubles team point earlier in the evening.
Senior Toby Boyer extended his winning streak to four in a row -- and a 6-1 spring record -- after beating Nick Campbell, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 position.
Victor Moreno Lozano gave Nebraska a 3-2 lead after knocking off Daniel Lopez-Rey at No. 4 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Victor Moreno is now 6-3 in the spring, and holds a 14-9 record in 2018-19.
Junior Micah Klousia, who advanced to 4-2 in his spring campaign, earned a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over Stratton Brown to close out the 4-2 Husker victory.
Sophomore Isaac Nortey held a 4-6, 6-0, 4-1 lead against Jose Oscar Diaz at No. 5 before the match was called, while fellow sophomore Alvaro Moreno Lozano dropped a 6-1, 6-0 contest to Mac Mease at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles competition, Boyer and Gleason notched a 6-4 win over Brown and Mease at No. 1, while Victor Moreno and Nortey fell short to Campbell and Lopez-Rey, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Senior Jon Meyer and Klousia lost a tough 7-5 match to Moorhead/Gandini at No. 3 that gave Creighton the doubles team point.
The Huskers will practice in the next couple of weeks before traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, for a doubleheader at Drake University on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Huskers will take on the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at 9 a.m. CT before playing the Drake Bulldogs at 6 p.m. CT that day.
