Huskers Take Victory Over Ohio State on the Road

Columbus, Ohio -- The No. 17 Nebraska women's gymnastics defeated the No. 22 Ohio State Buckeyes, 196.400-195.750.

The Huskers won, picking up their third Big Ten victory of the season with solid team performances in the final two rotations sealing the win for Nebraska. Junior Taylor Houchin won the vault and balance beam titles with scores of 9.90 on both events. Ohio State’s Claire Gagliardi took the uneven bars title with a score of 9.90. Senior Sienna Crouse won the floor exercise title with a career high score of 9.95. Ohio State’s Jaime Stone took the all-around title with a score of 39.200.

Rotation One

To start the meet, the Huskers began on uneven bars. Houchin led the way for Nebraska with a 9.875 on the event. Adnerys De Jesus followed with a solid routine for a score of 9.775, and Sarah Hargrove and Megan Verceles Carr both scored 9.75. Kelli Chung anchored out Nebraska with a score of 9.675, while Crouse finished her routine for a score of 9.45 due to a fall.

On vault, Stone scored a 9.85for the Buckeyes, while Janelle McClelland finished with a score of 9.80. Morgan Lowe and Olivia Aepli followed closely as both scored 9.775 on the event. Ohio State led the Huskers after the first rotation by a score of 48.925-48.825.

Rotation Two

Nebraska tightened Ohio State’s lead with a solid team performance in the second rotation on vault. Houchin tied a season high on the event with a score of 9.90, while Crouse followed behind with a score of 9.875. Verceles Carr scored a career high of 9.85 and De Jesus continued her string of solid vaults with a score of 9.80. Kaylee Quinn scored a 9.725 with a powerful vault, and Anika Dujakovich scored a 9.225 due to a fall.

On bars, Ohio State did just enough to hold off the Huskers. Claire Gagliardi led the way for the Buckeyes with a career high for a score of 9.90, which tied her with Houchin for the event title. Stone followed behind with a score of 9.85, as the Buckeyes led the Huskers after the second rotation 98.000-97.975.

Rotation Three

Moving on to floor, the Huskers took the lead for the first time of the meet with numerous huge performances. Crouse scored a career high on floor with a score of 9.95, while Schweihofer finished her routine strong for a 9.825. Catelyn Orel scored a season high on the event with a 9.85, while De Jesus and Abby Johnston both tied career highs with scores of 9.825 and 9.800 respectively. Sierra Hassel finished her routine for a score of 9.575.

On beam, the Buckeyes could not hang on to their slim lead, as Nebraska took the advantage by a score of 147.275-146.675. Jenna Swartzentruber finished her routine for a score of 9.825, while Miriam Perez followed behind with a score of 9.80.

Rotation Four

With the meet coming down to beam, Nebraska held onto its lead to take the dual meet. Houchin scored a 9.90 to lead the Huskers, while Hassel, Schweihofer and Makayla Curtis finished with scores of 9.825. Crouse finished her routine for a score of 9.80, while Hargrove scored a 9.025 due to a stumble and a fall. Nebraska won the meet by a score of 196.400-195.750.
