Huskers Lead Big Red Invitational
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s bowling team kicked off the annual Big Red Invitational on Friday with a total pinfall of 4,364. This performance lands the team in first-place heading into Saturday’s traditional style matches.
The Huskers started off the tournament with a match against Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks came out strong, taking the first three matches 171-215, 215-236 and 167-224, respectively. The Huskers fired back, winning the last two matches 223-188 and 247-201.
In their next match of the day, NU took down McKendree, 3-2. The match was highlighted by an 11-strike, one-spare game in which the Huskers defeated the Bearcats 279-168.
The Huskers dominated their match against Central Missouri, taking the Jennies down 4-1. NU won the first match 234-199 before the Jennies claimed the next match 167-188 to tie the game 1-1. Nebraska fought back, winning the final three matches 192-159, 237-199 and 248-212.
In their final match of the day, the Huskers defeated Arkansas State 224-213, 245-221 and 197-188 before the Red Wolves put up a solid 256 in the fourth to take it 224-256. In the fifth game of the match, Arkansas State managed a 222-210 victory. Due to a tie in total pinfall between the two teams, the Huskers faced the Red Wolves in a roll-off which had no pinfall implications in the standings. The Huskers won the roll-off 97-83.
The Big Red Invitational continues Saturday at 8:35 a.m. (CT) with five traditional matches, beginning with a match against Maryville. The Huskers will then take on Lincoln (Mo.), Lincoln Memorial, Valparaiso
