Huskers Finish Second at Big Red Invitational

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska women’s bowling team finished second over the weekend at the Big Red Invitational. The Huskers went 8-3 and finished with a total pinfall of 11,891.

The Huskers claimed two of the top five spots in the individual standings. Estefania Prieto led the Huskers, finishing in third place with her average of 223.6. Senior Meghan Straub finished close behind, landing in fourth place with her average of 222.

The Huskers started Saturday’s traditional style matches with a 1,123-956 victory over Maryville. NU also managed a 1,036-796 victory over Lincoln (MO) before falling to Lincoln Memorial by a score of 950-1,042. The Huskers finished Saturday’s match play with a victory over Drury (1,179-911.)

Sunday’s best-four-of-seven baker style tournament began with a 4-2 victory over Drury. NU took the first game 201-142 before falling 182-189 and 172-177 in the second and third, respectively. The Huskers bounced back, taking the next three games 212-202,223-202 and 245-180.

 This victory sent the Huskers to play McKendree for the tournament title. The Huskers took the first game 247-227 but dropped the next four 173-247, 208-234,195-215 and 171-232 to finish in second place.

 The Huskers will await selection to the 2019 NCAA Bowling Championship. The NCAA Championship is set for April 11-13 at RolHouse Wicklife in Wicklife, Ohio. Nebraska has qualified for the NCAA Championship in each of the 15 seasons that bowling has been an NCAA-sanctioned sport while claiming five NCAA championships in that time period.
