Wichita, Kan. The Nebraska softball team (10-7) fell to Wichita State (15-5), 10-1 in five innings on Saturday.

The Shockers had just seven hits, but the Huskers gave up two homers and four unearned runs in the loss.

Nebraska had four hits on the day - one from Tristen Edwards, Samantha Owen, Madi Unzicker and Bri Cassidy. Edwards had Nebraska's lone RBI, while Rylie Unzicker scored the run.

Nebraska jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Rylie Unzicker drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout. She reached third on a passed ball and Edwards singled to score the run. Owen and Madi Unzicker drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with one out. This prompted a WSU pitching change. She got the Shockers out of the jam, recording two straight outs to end the inning without allowing any additional runs. In the bottom of the inning, WSU put two runners in scoring position with no outs. The leadoff runner reached second on a single and a fielding error. The next batter was hit and both advanced one base on a wild pitch. A walk loaded the bases for the Shockers. Walljasper got a big strikeout looking, but the next batter singled to score two runs. A groundout scored another run. The Huskers got out of the inning when Cassidy caught a runner stealing.

In the second, WSU retired the first three Husker batters. The Huskers followed suit and did the same in the bottom of the inning.

Owen drew a two-out walk in the third, but she was the only baserunner as the next Husker batter lined out to the pitcher. In the bottom of the inning, a solo home run extended Wichita State's lead to 4-1.

In the fourth, Wallace drew a one-out walk and Cassidy singled to put two runners on. Anni Raley pinch ran for Cassidy, but the Shockers retired the next two batters to get out of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Shockers scored six runs - including four unearned runs- off four hits and one error.

In the fifth, Nebraska tried to avoid getting run ruled. Owen hit a two-out single. Carson Fischer pinch ran for her and Madi Unzicker singled to put runners on the corners, but WSU got the final out without allowing a run to end the game.

Due to weather, Nebraska and Wichita State will not play a second game today. Instead, the teams will play two games tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
