Moisey Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Championships
Pittsburgh, Pa. – The NCAA announced the 330 qualifiers for the 2019 DI NCAA wrestling tournament this afternoon. Of the 330 qualifiers, 286 earned automatic bids based on their finishes in their respective conference tournaments. The 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Seven Huskers, Chad Red Jr. (141), Tyler Berger (157), Isaiah White (165), Mikey Labriola (174), Taylor Venz (184), Eric Schultz (197) and David Jensen (285) all clinched automatic bids with their performances at the Big Ten Championships March 9-10.
Redshirt senior Zeke Moisey is the only Husker to earn an at-large bid, marking the first year since 2015-16 that NU has sent at least eight wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
Zeke Moisey (125) was a two-time All-American at West Virginia before coming to Nebraska this year as a graduate transfer. He finished 12th at the Big Ten Championships this past weekend as he had to medically forfeit in the 9th place semifinals on Sunday. Moisey is 13-11 (8-6 in duals) on the season with four wins over ranked opponents.
Criteria for at-large bid selections are as follows: 25% for head-to-head competition, 20% for quality wins, 15% for coaches’ rank, 10% for RPI, 10% for win percentage, 10% for conference tournament placement and 10% for common opponents.
All 33 grapplers in each weight class will be seeded numerically, 1-33.
