Palo Alto, Calif., - The Nebraska men's golf team is in 23rd place after day two at “The Goodwin,” the three-day, 27-team tournament hosted by Stanford University. The Huskers followed up their 293 (+13) on day one with a 304 (+24) in round two.

 

Parkville, Mo., native Tanner Owen followed up his one-under par 69 in round one with a 71 (+1) in round two. Owen leads all Huskers and is tied for 10th overall in the 132-golfer tournament after two rounds. Owen has three career top-20 finishes but has yet to finish in the top-10 in an event in his Husker career.

 

Stanford shot their second straight 279 to bring their 36-hole score to 558 (-2). The Cardinal holds a seven-stroke lead over USC (+5), who is in second place. California (+6), Oklahoma (+8) and Washington (+9) round out the top five.

 

Nebraska-Kearney graduate transfer Jay Cottam is in a tie for 78th overall after he followed up his 74 (+4) on day one with a 75 (+5) today. Seniors Jace Guthmiller and Jackson Wendling both carded a 79 (+9) in round two. Guthmiller (+13) is tied for 103rd while Wendling (+15) is tied for 117th. Cameron Jones rounds out the group at +18 and he sits in a tie for 125th.

 

NU fired five birdies as a team today. Tanner Owen led the team with two while Cottam, Guthmiller and Wendling tallied one apiece. The Huskers have birdied 13 times combined in the first two rounds.

 

Coach Hankins’ group will be back in action for the final round tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. CT. It will be a shotgun start for all teams.
