Stephenson Named B1G Ten Co-Gymnast of the Year

The Big Ten Conference announced the 2019 Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Year, as voted upon by the conference coaches Monday. Nebraska men’s gymnast Anton Stephenson earned Co-Gymnast of the Year, sharing the honor with Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus. Illinois’ Michael Fletcher was awarded Freshman of the Year.

Stephenson is the first Husker to earn Gymnast of the Year award since the installation of the award in 1988. The Fishers, Ind. native is ranked first on vault (14.744 avg.) and holds the nation’s highest score (15.100) of the year. Stephenson has tallied 13 event titles this season, including four all-around golds. Stephenson was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on March 29 and is a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award, given to the top senior male gymnast in the NCAA based on athletic achievements, sportsmanship and academic excellence.
