Throwers Lead Huskers on Day One in Alabama

The Nebraska track and field team kicked off the Crimson Tide Invitational at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Complex in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Thursday evening.

Both James Joycey and Anna Purchase led the Huskers, placing in their respective hammer throw sections. Joycey finished third on the men's side with a throw of 189-5 (57.75m). Anna Purchase placed fifth in the women's section with a personal-best throw of 191-4 (58.33m). Kristina Insingo also participated in the women's hammer throw and finished ninth with a mark of 164-0 (49.98m).

Wyatt McGuire ran in the Invitational 1,500 meters and finished 11th with a time of 4:00.97.

Jared Seay also competed in the decathlon at the Samford Track Challenge in Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday afternoon. He is currently in first place with 3,915 points. Seay won the decathlon long jump (23-7 1/2, 7.20m), shot put (42-0, 12.80m) and the high jump (6-6 3/4, 2.00m). His distance in the long jump was a new PR.

Nebraska will conclude both the Crimson Tide Invitational and Samford Track Challenge on Friday. Field events at the Crimson Tide Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. and action on the track will start at Noon. Seay will begin his final five events at the Samford Track Challenge at 10 a.m.
