Six Huskers Honored at Night at the Lied

The University of Nebraska Athletic Department recognized its top student-athletes in both the classroom and competition at the annual A Night at the Lied ceremony. The event featured the best performances academically and athletically, including six Huskers on the swimming and diving team.

Seniors Kaylyn Flatt and Anna McDonald earned the third-annual Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award presented by Life Skills. This award, named in honor of the late Husker punter Sam Foltz who passed away in 2016, was presented to 27 student-athletes across all sports who exhibit strong leadership qualities, commitment to service and ability to encourage/empower peer.

Senior Lindsay Helferich is one of nine Huskers to receive the Outstanding Scholar Award, which is presented to student-athletes in their final season of eligibility or who are graduating next month while carrying a 3.90 or better GPA. Helferich has made the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters and was a member of the 2016 and 2017 Herman Team GPA Award. The Texas native was named CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention in 2016 and 2017. She is also a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Senior Jacqueline Jeschke received the Heart & Soul Award presented by Life Skills. Jeschke was one of eight winners across Husker sports to earn the most prestigious individual award. The Georgia native earned the Same Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award in 2018. She also won the Nebraska Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for three consecutive years.

Divers Abigail Knapton and Jessica Warak were finalists for Female-Athlete of the Year and Newcomer of the Year Awards, respectively. Knapton was named the Nebraska Athletics Outstanding Female Newcomer of the Year for her 2016-17 season.

Life Skills also honored the members of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team, as a total of 384 student-athletes were recognized. Husker student-athletes volunteered to impact more than 30,000 people throughout the state of Nebraska in 2018-19.
