2018-19 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Recap
The 2018-19 year proved to be a busy one for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). One of the major accomplishments of SAAC this year was the implementation of the Huskers Supporting Huskers competition. This was a student-athlete led competition between teams counting the attendance of student-athletes at sporting competitions. This proved to be a huge success as there was an increase in student-athlete attendance at Husker sports competitions. Soccer won the inaugural competition with at least half of their team at all of the Husker Supporting Husker events that they were in town for.
SAAC also hosted a variety of other events for student-athletes, and campus and community partners:
- Appreciation Luncheons for Student Affairs, Admissions Office, Office of the Registrar, and Scholarships and Financial Aid Office
- Mental Health Awareness Week Initiatives
- Dinner for Donors
- Donor Thank You Letters
- Thanksgiving Food Drive
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day Hospital Visit
- National Student-Athlete Day Panels and Dinner
- Husker Campus Happenings Newsletter
At the final spring 2019 meeting, elections were held for the 2019-20 office positions. Sinclaire Miramontez was elected as the new president of SAAC and Daniel Pearson was appointed Vice President. Sierra Hassel was voted the new Big Ten Representative and Evan Hymanson is the new Secretary. Thank-you to all members of the 2018-19 SAAC and we look forward to a productive and impactful 2019-20 academic year!
