Green to Compete for Senior Men's Freestyle Title

By NU Athletic Communications

Las Vegas, Nev. – Two-time world medalist and Husker great James Green (70 kg) advanced to the U.S. Open Senior Men’s Freestyle finals yesterday evening with a 6-6 victory (criteria) over Penn State’s three-time national champion Jason Nolf.

He defeated Nolf in the semifinals by criteria after he landed a takedown with just nine seconds remaining in the bout. Green, who came into the tournament as the No. 1 seed in his weight class, will take on Northwestern’s Ryan Deakin, who made his way to the finals after beginning the U.S. Open as the No. 10 seed. The U.S. Open Senior Men’s Freestyle finals begin at 4 p.m. CT this afternoon.

NU’s to-be senior Christian Lance was eliminated from competition in the Senior Men’s Freestyle 125 kg bracket. Lance finished 3-2 on the weekend and advanced to the Cons. Round of 8 #2 before falling to Utah Valley’s Tate Orndorff, 10-0, by VSU.
