Lincoln – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced today that Nebraska student-athletes Craig Brester and Tucker Lane were selected to its 2008-09 All-Academic team. The two Huskers joined 72 other wrestlers around the nation in earning the honor.

 

Brester, a mechanized systems management major, is a three-time honoree on the NWCA and Big 12 academic teams. The Howells, Neb., native carries a 3.25 grade-point average. He wrapped up his junior season last March with a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships, posting a 34-4 record during the campaign.

 

Lane, a communication studies major, earned the honor for this first time in his career. His 3.91 gpa is the third-highest among the honorees. Earning the starting spot at heavyweight as a redshirt freshman, Lane went 28-14 during the season and qualified for the NCAA Championships.

 

To qualify for the NWCA All-Academic team, wrestlers must have at least a 3.2 cumulative gpa, been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule and must have competed in at least 60 percent of said schedule. Wrestlers can also earn a spot on the team if they have a 3.0 cumulative gpa and been and NCAA All-American.
