Renee Cheney appeared in 37 games with one start during her two-year career at Nebraska. The 5-8 guard from Palmyra, Neb., earned letters following her freshman and sophomore seasons. Cheney finished her career at Nebraska with 19 points, 17 rebounds and four assists.
As a freshman in 1976-77, Cheney averaged 0.5 points and 0.4 rebounds per game, while appearing in 24 contests to help the Huskers to a 21-16 overall record. She hit 3-of-17 shots (17.6 percent) from the field, while connecting on 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) of her free throws.
As a sophomore, Cheney added eight points and eight rebounds on the season while appearing in 13 games, as the Huskers finished with a 12-14 record.
At Palmyra High School, Cheney was a three-time all-state selection in basketball.
The daughter of Donald and Maxine Cheney, Renee was born Nov. 16, 1957 in Lincoln, Neb. She was a physical education major at Nebraska.
