One of the first four-year female letterwinners at the University of Nebraska, Laura Tietjen appeared in 117 games with 31 starts during her Husker career. She totaled 493 points, 217 rebounds and 138 assists.
The 5-8 guard from Byron, Neb., averaged 4.2 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in her career and still owns the Nebraska single-game record with her 14-for-14 performance at the free throw line against UNLV on Jan. 15, 1977.
A pioneer as a girls basketball player in the state of Nebraska who has continued to promote women's athletics in her role as the senior woman administrator at Kansas State Univeristy, Tietjen was a three-time all-state selection in basketball as a high school player. In 1976, she led all players in the state of Nebraska by averaging 38 points per game.
The daughter of Verland and Merna Tietjen, Laura was born June 2, 1958 in Hebron, Neb.
