Ruth James was a part-time starter and earned a letter in her only season with the Nebraska women's basketball team in 1978-79.
A 5-8 guard from Oakland, Calif., James played in 36 games with 20 starts and ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 7.0 points per game. She added 3.5 rebounds per contest, while also ranking second on the club with 59 total steals. She added 80 assists and six blocked shots on the season. James connected on 46.3 percent (115-248) of her shots from the field and 53.8 percent (21-39) of her free throw attempts.
James finished her NU career with 251 points, 125 rebounds, 80 assists, 59 steals and six blocks.
She helped the Huskers to a 23-13 overall record under Coach Lorrie Gallagher, which tied the school record for most wins in a single season.
