Junior rush end Tyler Toline (pronounced Toe-LEEN) will be counted on for depth at defensive end this fall. Toline saw limited action last year and enters fall camp as the No. 3 end on the left side behind junior Benard Thomas and sophomore Titus Adams. Toline excels in the classroom where he has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner?s Academic Honor Roll four times. He is also a regular volunteer in the community and was named to the 2003 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.
Toline played in three games as a reserve rush end last season and made a pair of tackles against Kansas. He also played in Nebraska wins against Arizona State and Utah State.
2001 (Redshirt Freshman)
Toline appeared in the win over Iowa State, but did not have a tackle.
A walk-on, Toline redshirted his first season at Nebraska.
Before Nebraska (Wahoo HS)
Toline played offensive guard and defensive end at Wahoo, where he earned all-state honors as a senior. In his senior season, Toline recorded 90 tackles, including nine sacks and recovered four fumbles. Toline earned a total of nine letters at Wahoo and was an academic all-state honoree.
The son of George and Mary Toline, Tyler was born on June 12, 1981. He is majoring in mechanical engineering and carries a 3.198 cumulative grade-point average. Tyler?s older brother, Travis, lettered from 1995 to 1998 as an NU rush end. Toline is a regular in Nebraska?s community outreach program, volunteering in the UNL Social Norms Program and the Dads of Kids with Disabilities Program. He has also spoken at Wahoo Elementary and is a member of the Husker Choices Alcohol Education Program.
