2006 (Senior)
Jay Moore was one half of Nebraska’s impressive starting defensive end tandem for the past three seasons, joining fellow 2006 senior Adam Carriker. A starter for two full seasons and parts of another at open end, Moore concluded his career ranked on the Huskers’ career top-10 list for tackles for loss with 38.
Following two quietly outstanding years as a starter, Moore led the team in tackles for loss as a senior with 17 for 70 yards and ranked second only to Carriker with six sacks for 43 yards. Moore was successful because of the combination of size and strength not only to defend the run, but also the athletic ability to rush the passer.
In addition to his sack and tackle for loss totals, Moore also posted a career-best 45 tackles as a senior. His play helped the Husker defense to rankings among the Big 12’s best units in both rushing defense and scoring defense. Moore opened his senior campaign strong in the first quarter against Louisiana Tech, recording a sack before finishing the game with two TFLs and one quarterback hurry.
Moore helped NU rebound from its first loss of the season at USC with a sack on his only tackle against Troy. Moore’s effort helped the Huskers claim their first shutout in nearly three years. His solid stretch continued through the Kansas and Iowa State games, as he notched a then-season-high five tackles during both wins.
He made his third sack of the season at Kansas State in a 21-3 Husker win, then had three tackles for loss and his fourth sack of the year against fifth-ranked Texas. Moore set a new best with six stops against Missouri, including a career-high three tackles for loss for the fourth time in his career.
Moore and the Husker defense concluded the season with one of their best efforts against Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game. Moore claimed his fifth sack among two tackles for loss, while helping the Blackshirts limit the Sooners to well below their previous season-low mark for rushing yardage. In the Cotton Bowl, Moore had one of five Nebraska sacks as the Huskers limited Auburn to less than 200 total yards.
2005 (Junior)
Moore was a fixture at the open end spot and helped Nebraska lead the nation in sacks and tackles for loss. Moore totaled seven tackles in non-conference action, then got off to a great start in conference play against Iowa State. He finished with three tackles, including two tackles for loss and a six-yard sack. He also had a pass breakup and intercepted a pass to thwart a third-quarter Cyclone scoring threat. A week later, Moore recorded a career-high three TFLs for 18 yards against Texas Tech, including a 12-yard sack. For the third straight game, Moore also forced a fumble, which was returned by Bo Ruud deep into Tech territory to set up a Nebraska touchdown.
Moore set up another touchdown at Missouri with a 17-yard fumble return inside the Tiger 10. Against Oklahoma, he matched his career-best with three tackles for loss, then had a hand in a second-quarter sack at Colorado. He capped the year with four tackles in the Alamo Bowl win over Michigan. Moore had at least one tackle for loss in nine of 12 games as a junior.
2004 (Sophomore)
Moore was honored as Nebraska's Most Improved Defensive Player during spring ball, earning him a key role in the fall. He started games three through six, including three on the right side in place of the injured Carriker, while starting on the left side against Baylor. Moore finished the season with 21 total tackles, including 11 solo stops. He had seven tackles for loss (25 yards) and recorded three sacks for 16 yards, while hurrying opposing quarterbacks eight times.
Moore opened the year with a pair of tackles for loss and a fumble recovery against Western Illinois. He made a season-high six tackles against Kansas, including a pair of tackles for loss. Moore made the most of his only tackle against Baylor, causing and recovering a fumble on his seven-yard sack. Moore had a season-high three quarterback hurries against Missouri, while capping his season with three tackles against Colorado.
2003 (Redshirt Freshman)
Moore was a reserve defensive end, but did not see game action.

Moore redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.
Before Nebraska (Elkhorn HS)
Moore played fullback and defensive end for Coach Mark Wortman at Elkhorn High School. Moore’s senior season was cut short by a knee injury, but he was still regarded as one of the top recruits in the state of Nebraska.
In 2001, Moore had 92 carries for 822 yards (8.9 ypa) and scored 16 touchdowns in five games before suffering an ACL injury that required surgery. A member of the Omaha World-Herald’s Super Six team, Moore rushed for 1,742 yards and 31 touchdowns (8.8 ypa) in 2000. His effort earned him second-team super-state honors from the Lincoln Journal Star, while he was the LJS Class B (second largest) Offensive Player of the Year and the Omaha World-Herald honorary Class B offensive captain. He attended the Big Red Football School and committed to the Huskers before his senior year. Moore also earned honorable-mention all-state honors in basketball from the World-Herald in 2001, but did not play as a senior.
Personal
The son of Jim and Marion Moore, Jay was born on Aug. 16, 1983. He is majoring in secondary education and earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors in 2004. He is also a three-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll pick.
