2004 (Senior)
Mike Erickson proved to be the ironman of Nebraska’s offensive line during the final three seasons of his career, starting each of his final 37 games as a Husker. After spending his sophomore and junior campaigns playing left guard in NU’s option-based offensive attack, Head Coach Bill Callahan’s West Coast Offense utilized Erickson as the starting left tackle in 2004.

The Omaha, Neb., native earned honorable-mention All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press after spending his senior season protecting quarterback Joe Dailey’s blindside. Erickson and his counterparts on the NU pipeline helped the Husker offense set several passing records. They also paved the way for the first 1,000-yard rushing campaign by a Nebraska running back since the 2001 season.

Erickson graduated in May 2005 with a degree in criminal justice, one month after signing a professional contract with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

2003 (Junior)
Erickson started all 13 games at left guard as a junior. Behind the offensive line, Nebraska finished second in the Big 12 and seventh nationally in rushing yards per game at 236.2 yards per contest. Nebraska produced more than 250 yards on the ground seven times, including a season-high 337 yards in an 18-10 victory over Penn State.

The Husker offensive line set the tone early in the season, as NU averaged better than 290 yards rushing in the first three games, and controlled the clock for better than 38 minutes per contest in victories over Oklahoma State, Utah State and Penn State. The Huskers produced a season-high 405 yards of total offense against Utah State. Nebraska also was strong on the ground at midseason, topping 250 yards rushing in three consecutive games (Missouri, Texas A&M, Iowa State). Nebraska capped the year with a physical rushing performance in a 17-3 win over Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl.

2002 (Sophomore)
Erickson had the tough task of replacing departed 2001 All-American Toniu Fonoti at left guard and responded by starting all 14 games. Nebraska finished fourth nationally in rushing offense, averaging 268.7 yards per game. The Huskers topped 300 rushing yards five times in 2002, all in a six-game mid-season stretch from the McNeese State game to the Texas game when the NU offense averaged 346.8 yards on the ground.

Erickson was third on the team in pancakes (101) and had six double-figure pancake games, including four of the season’s first six games. He posted a career-high 16 pancakes at Texas A&M, when NU had 110 knock-downs, and added 14 knock-downs against McNeese State, when Nebraska rushed for a season-high 444 yards. Erickson also produced at least 10 pancakes against Arizona State, Troy State, Penn State and Texas.

2001 (Redshirt Freshman)
Erickson, the only freshman on the Huskers’ top two offensive line units, played in six games for the Huskers and recorded four pancake blocks, one against Rice, two against Iowa State and one at Kansas.

A scholarship athlete, Erickson redshirted in 2000.

Before Nebraska (Papillion-LaVista HS)
One of the top linemen in the state of Nebraska, Erickson was a three-year starter at Papillion-LaVista High School for Coach Gene Suhr. A force on both sides of the ball as a senior, Erickson earned super-state honors from the Lincoln Journal Star and was selected by the Omaha World-Herald as its honorary offensive captain. An All-American by SuperPrep, he also earned honorable-mention All-America honors from USA Today. After playing offense exclusively during his first three seasons, Erickson finished his senior campaign with 92 tackles and a pair of sacks, leading the Monarchs to a state quarterfinals appearance in 1999. A second-team football all-state selection as a junior, Erickson was also recruited by Colorado State, Iowa State and Iowa. He also played basketball for Papillion-LaVista.

Personal
The son of Dave and Sue Erickson, Mike was born May 8, 1982. Mike earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in May of 2005. Erickson was named to the 2002 second-team academic All-Big 12 squad.
