2005 Outlook
Place-kicker David Dyches (pronounced Dikes) had a standout freshman campaign in 2003, then split time in the same role a year ago. The Texas native enters fall camp listed as the Huskers' top kicker, and will try for a solid fall camp to keep him atop the depth chart.

Dyches played in five games in 2004, as he split kickoff duties with senior Sandro DeAngelis, before regaining the starting place-kicking job for the season's final two games. Dyches made 2-of-3 field goals and both of his PAT attempts in 2004, and enters his junior year with a 67 percent career field goal success rate (16-24) and a perfect 34-of-34 record on extra-point attempts.

Dyches quickly moved to the top of Nebraska's depth chart as a true freshman in 2003, taking over the kicking duties in game two. He finished 2003 with 14-of-21 accuracy on field goals and was perfect on 32 PAT attempts. His 14 field goals tied the Nebraska freshman record. Dyches led the Huskers in scoring with 74 points and his average of 1.17 field goals per game placed him 35th nationally. Dyches was honored for his performance as Rivals.com named him an honorable-mention freshman All-American.

2004 (Sophomore)
Dyches saw early-season kickoff duty against Western Illinois and Pittsburgh. His first place-kicking action was at Texas Tech when he connected on a career-long 46-yard field goal in the second quarter. He made a 39-yard field goal on the game's final play at Oklahoma, helping NU avoid a shutout. His only miss of the year was a 51-yard attempt against Colorado, when he connected on his only two PAT attempts of the season.

2003 (Freshman)
Dyches played in the final 12 games of his freshman season and was Nebraska's starting place-kicker for the final 11 games. Dyches connected on 14-of-21 field goals to tie his predecessor, Josh Brown, for the Husker freshman field goal record. Dyches was perfect on his 32 PAT attempts and led the Huskers in scoring with 74 points. His 14 field goals were the fourth most in the Big 12 and his average of 1.17 field goals per game placed him 35th nationally. Dyches was honored for his performance as Rivals.com named him an honorable-mention freshman All-American.

Dyches took over for DeAngelis against Utah State in game two and hit on field goals of 23, 20, 29 and 26 yards. A week later, he hit 4-of-5 field goals against Penn State, including a season-long 41-yarder in the second quarter. With his four-field goal efforts, Dyches became just the third Husker kicker (five total games) and first freshman to connect on four or more field goals in a game.

He followed by hitting single field goals in each of Nebraska's next three games, including 40-yarders against both Southern Miss and Troy State. He closed out the year by hitting two of his final three FG attempts, including a 19-yarder in the fourth quarter at Colorado that gave the Huskers a 24-22 lead.

Dyches made a season-high five extra points against both Southern Miss and Texas A&M. His perfect PAT season was Nebraska's eighth since 1985, but the first in that span by a freshman. He also shared kickoff duties with Sandro DeAngelis before Sam Koch took over the duties in the Texas A&M contest.

Before Nebraska (Westfield HS)
One of the most highly recruited kickers in the country, Dyches was Nebraska's first scholarship place-kicking recruit in three seasons. He was a standout at Westfield High School in Houston, where he made 31-of-35 extra-point attempts as a senior and connected on four field goals, including a long of 44 yards. Dyches booted 27 of his kickoffs for touchbacks in 2002.

As a junior, Dyches connected on 11-of-16 field goals and made 52 of his 55 extra-point tries. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 12 kicker according to Rivals.com. Dyches capped his prep career by playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio in January of 2003. He had a strong performance in the game, including a 42-yard field goal.

Dyches was also a two-year starter for Westfield’s baseball team and was a standout in the classroom, carrying a 4.33 GPA on a 4.0 scale in his junior and senior years. He chose Nebraska over Ohio State.

Personal
David Dyches III is the son of Dave and Sandra Dyches, and was born on Oct. 16, 1984. Dyches is majoring in communication studies, and was named to the 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. He has volunteered his time with the Behavioral Skills Program in Lincoln and in local hospital visits.
