Lincoln – University of Nebraska baseball coach Mike Anderson announced the signing of junior college All-American Trey Adams to a National Letter-of-Intent at Nebraska for the 2005 season.
Adams, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound outfielder from Blinn (Texas) College garnered NJCAA All-America honors this past season for Head Coach Brian Roper, batting .420 (84-for-120) with five homers and 42 RBIs. The Coppell, Texas, native added 23 doubles, six triples and was 21-of-22 in stolen base attempts.
"I chose Nebraska because the Big 12 is the premier conference in college baseball and I want an opportunity to go to the College World Series," Adams said.
"We felt as though Trey was a great match for the Nebraska baseball program," Anderson said. "His feel for the game is excellent, and his baseball skills will help him challenge for an immediate role next spring."
Adams, who played two seasons in center field, helped Blinn to a 43-14 record and a top-five national ranking before the team lost in the regional championship game – one game short of the NJCAA World Series.
"Nebraska is getting a good, gritty player," Roper said. "At the plate, he has some pop, and is an excellent bunter. He is very aggressive, and fits the mold of players that Nebraska has had over the past few seasons."
Adams, who selected NU over TCU, intends to major in business administration and was a teammate of current Husker Brandon Fusilier at Coppell High School. Adams played football and baseball, earning all-district honors in both sports.
