Lincoln (www.Huskers.com) -- University of Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon (Lincoln, Neb.) added to his impressive postseason haul on Thursday, as he was selected to three more All-America teams - Baseball America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America and CollegeBaseballInsider.com.
Gordon has been a unanimous first-team All-American selection by five different publications (also Sports Weekly and Collegiate Baseball), while he looks to complete the sweep later this week when the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) releases their team.
Gordon, a finalist for the Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy which is awarded on Friday in Omaha, batted .365 with 18 homers and 75 RBIs during the 2004 season. He led the Big 12 in on-base percentage (.493), slugging percentage (.754), walks (47), triples (five) and runs scored (64), while ranking in the top-10 in homers, total bases (159), RBIs (75) and doubles (18). The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder started all 59 games and played in 520 of 524 innings in the field, including every inning during league play, to help Nebraska set a team record with a .975 fielding percentage. For his efforts, he was chosen as the Big 12 Player of the Year, as well as the NCBWA District VI Player of the Year.
Gordon is currently in Durham, North Carolina, preparing for the 2004 Team USA Trials scheduled to begin this weekend.
