Lincoln -- University of Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon (Lincoln, Neb.) completed his sweep of postseason All-America awards on Wednesday when he was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America team.

The 6-1, 215-pound third baseman became the first Husker to earn unanimous first-team All-America honors since current Kansas City Royals first baseman Ken Harvey in 1999. Gordon was chosen by every major baseball publication (Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, Sports Weekly) along with first-team accolades from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America and CollegeBaseballInsider.com.

A finalist for the 2004 Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy, Gordon batted .365 with 18 homers and 75 RBIs during the 2004 season. He led the Big 12 in on-base percentage (.493), slugging percentage (.754), walks (47), triples (five) and runs scored (64), while ranking in the top 10 in homers, total bases (159), RBIs (75) and doubles (18). The Lincoln native started all 59 games and played in 520 of 524 innings in the field, including every inning during league play, to help Nebraska set a team record with a .975 fielding percentage. For his efforts, he was chosen as the Big 12 Player of the Year, as well as the NCBWA District VI Player of the Year.

Gordon, who was also a first-team ABCA Midwest Region selection, was one of four Big 12 players on the 16-member first team. He was joined by Texas pitchers J.P. Howell and Huston Street and Texas Tech first baseman Josh Brady. Gordon was also one of only four sophomores chosen to the first team. Gordon was the only Husker on either the All-America or All-Midwest Region teams.

Gordon is currently participating at the 2004 Team USA Trials in Durham, N.C., as the United States begins a four-game series with Canada Wednesday evening. Fans can follow along during the series with live stats available on Huskers.com. Gordon is one of 36 players invited to the 2004 Team USA Trials.
