Huskers Look forward to Tilt with Penn State

Lincoln – The Nebraska football team deftly avoided the late-afternoon rain showers, as the Huskers conducted an hour and 45 minute workout on the Stadium turf Wednesday afternoon. The Huskers nearly escaped practice unscathed, finishing the workout just as the inclement weather set in.

While Coach Frank Solich called today's practice "business-like," the Husker head coach said the Huskers are looking forward to Saturday's game against Penn State in a matchup between two of college football's winningest programs.

"I think they are excited about the opportunity to play a great program and an excellent football team," Solich said.

The 7 p.m. contest between the No. 18 Huskers and Nittany Lions will be televised to ABC throughout much of the country.

One of the keys to the game is how the Huskers will look to contain Michael Robinson, who rushed for 56 yards and two scores on just four carries in last year's loss. Robinson has seen extensive time in Penn State's first two games, and Solich said the Huskers need to account for Robinson every time he is on the field.

"You can only prepare so much for a great athlete like he is, especially when they use him as well as they do," Solich said. "We are conscious of where he lines up and what he's all about. Hopefully we can slow him down a little bit, but we understand that will be quite a task."

While Robinson, who is second on the team in rushing with 108 yards on 18 carries, is a potential difference maker. Solich said the balance of the Penn State offense, even with the loss for first-round draft pick Larry Johnson, makes defending the Nittany Lion offense a challenge.

"They are still running a complete offense," Solich said. "Some years you have a big I-back that is a first or second-round draft choice, and they always put together an excellent offensive line with excellent athletes in general."

The Huskers will wrap up preparations for Saturday's game with a practice in sweats Thursday afternoon before the team's traditional Friday walk-through.
