Lincoln – Several former Huskers turned in strong performances on Sunday during the second weekend of action in the National Football League.
In Green Bay, running back Ahman Green rushed for 160 yards on 23 carries, highlighted by a 65-yard touchdown, in the Packers' 31-6 win over Detroit. His touchdown run was his longest since he went 83 yards for a touchdown against the Lions on Sept. 9, 2001, while his 160 yards on the ground marked his 16th career 100-yard game. Green, who rushed for 150 or more yards for the seventh time in his career, now trails only Hall of Famer Jim Taylor in 100-yard performances as a Packer.
In Tampa Bay, two former Huskers helped the Carolina Panthers pull the biggest upset of the weekend, a 12-9 road win over the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Defensive end Mike Rucker had three tackles and a forced fumble, while Mike Minter, who blocked a potential game-winning field goal in the opener last week, had five stops in holding Tampa Bay to one touchdown.
Currently, a total of 32 former Huskers are on NFL rosters, as offensive tackle Dave Volk was signed by the Dallas Cowboys last week. A complete rundown of Week 2 performances is listed below. Volk, who is currently on the practice squad, and New York Giant cornerback Ralph Brown, who had 11 tackles in a win over the St. Louis Rams, will be in action Monday night, as the Giants take on the Cowboys.
