Sophomore running back Rex Burkhead said he thinks progress has been made this spring, but there is plenty of work ahead in the final week.
"I think we've improved, but we haven't done anything yet," Burkhead said. "We haven't played one game, so you really can't tell. I think we're coming along really well in the passing game and the running game."
Burkhead also noted the improvement he's seen in the offensive line throughout spring preparation.
"They are doing well," Burkhead said. "They are really competing there every day. Coach (Barney) Cotton is really pushing them. I think they are doing a tremendous job."
Burkhead will vie for time with senior running back Roy Helu Jr. The duo has spent a lot of time preparing in the offseason, especially in the form of competing with each other in workouts.
"(On) speed days it was always to see who could finish first, or in the weight room who could lift more or the quickest," Burkhead said. "Every day has been a competition throughout the winter workouts. It has helped us bond even closer, it has really helped the team."
Nebraska will practice on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning before the annual Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 17 at Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Huskers.com or by calling 1-800-8BIG-RED.
