Amukamara Claims Inaugural Pop Warner National College Football Award

Orlando, Fla. - Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara has been named the recipient of the inaugural Pop Warner National College Football Award. The honor, given by Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc., recognizes a Pop Warner alumnus who has exemplified excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Amukamara will accept the award this week in Orlando, Fla., at the 54th Annual Pop Warner Super Bowl. The 2010 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Amukamara will be attending the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards on Thursday night as one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation's most outstanding defensive back.

A native of Glendale, Ariz., Amukamara has been heavily involved in community service during his career at Nebraska, including time on local hospital visits, en route to being named to the 2010 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team. Amukamara is a political science major.

Founded in 1929, Pop Warner Little Scholars is the world's largest youth football, cheerleading and dance organization and the only youth sports organization that emphasizes academics as a prerequisite for participation. For more information on Pop Warner and its programs visit www.popwarner.com.
