The Nebraska football team held practice for just over two hours Monday afternoon as part of their ongoing spring football practice schedule. In preparation for the annual Red-White Spring game on April 16, the team worked out inside the Hawks Championship Center in a practice head coach Bo Pelini classified as a good return from spring break.
"They did great," Pelini said. "It was a bit sloppy at first. I thought there were a lot of good things and a lot of things that need to be fixed. We are about where you'd expect to be during spring ball."
Pelini said the team came back refreshed and ready to put what they learned before break into action on the field.
"It was business as usual," Pelini said. "Our kids did a good job of staying in shape over break and we reviewed what we added up to this point. We will keep progressing from here."
Pelini also spoke on his receiving corps and the talent that is emanating from the position.
"We have a lot of young guys with a lot of talent," Pelini said. "I think we have to wait and see. They're swimming in it a little bit, trying to figure everything out but there is talent there. I like the core group of guys, and I think you're going to see some guys who haven't played a lot around here that are ready to step up."
Lastly, with junior defensive end Cameron Meredith out during spring drills, Pelini spoke on what he is seeing from the ends and the progress they're making.
"I think they're doing a good job," Pelini said. "They're learning and we will see who steps up. We want to play three or four, so that gives guys opportunity to get a lot of reps and see who earns the playing time."
The Huskers will resume their spring practice schedule Friday afternoon. Tickets for the spring game remain available on Huskers.com and through the NU Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-8 BIG RED.
