LINCOLN- With the annual Red-White Spring Game just a week away, the Huskers took the practice fields Saturday morning to continue to gear up for the game. During practice Saturday, Nebraska scrimmaged and ran about 150 plays. After practice, Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini said he saw some good things from the squad.
"It was good. I was really unhappy with our practice yesterday. I don't know whether they knew we were scrimmaging today, but I thought we got a lot done today." Pelini said. "We had a good scrimmage. I saw some good things on both sides; I also saw a lot of things we need to get fixed."
During those 150 plays, Pelini counted two false start penalties, but believes that the whole squad's not game ready and still has room for improvement.
"It's about evaluating where they come technique wise, how they're handling their assignments and all those types of things," Pelini said. "We're not game ready, and we're not supposed to be game ready, and we're not game planning each other. We're just out there playing football. We're getting better and we need to continue to get better and we have four more practices to do so."
During the scrimmage, quarterbacks Brion Carnes, Cody Green and Kody Spano took the majority of the snaps and Pelini liked what he saw from the trio.
"We gave Brion a good look. Cody Green had a good scrimmage. I thought he did some good things out there. I think they all got to work on their consistency," Pelini said. "Kody Spano did some good things. Across the board we saw some good things, but we saw a lot of things that need to get fixed and that we need to sure up. But it's that time of the year, and that's what we're out there practicing for."
Nebraska will continue to prepare for April 16ths spring game when they take the practice field on Monday afternoon. Tickets for the spring game remain available on Huskers.com and through the NU Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-8 BIG RED.
