Soccer and Tennis Complex
The new Nebraska Soccer and Tennis Complex should be ready for the outdoor tennis season in 2015.
On Thursday, July 18, 2013, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved the program statement and budget for Nebraska Athletics to build dedicated, on-campus soccer and tennis competition facilities.
The $20.4 million Nebraska Soccer and Tennis Complex will be located on 28 acres owned by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The 28 acres, the former site of the State Fair campground, is adjacent to the Nebraska Innovation Campus currently under development. The site has been cleared of the old campground RV support infrastructure as part of the demolition of the old State Fair Park buildings and related structures. The new facility will be built with private donations.
Construction will begin in May 2014. The soccer fields could be completed in time for competition in the fall of 2014. The remaining facilities will be ready for the outdoor tennis season in 2015.
Nebraska Tennis Center
The Nebraska Tennis Center is a $3 million facility located in the Abbott Sports Complex just north of the intersection of 70th and Cornhusker Highway. The complex is the home of the men's and women's tennis teams. The Nebraska Tennis Center features six climate-controlled indoor courts, as well as 12 outdoor courts.
Nebraska Varsity Courts
NU Varsity Courts, Nebraska's outdoor tennis facility, is located on campus and provides the Huskers with a real home-court advantage. The facility, located just a few blocks from Memorial Stadium and downtown Lincoln, has eight courts, is lighted for play at night and includes fan seating and restrooms.
