Lincoln,
Neb. - The Nebraska football team practiced just over two hours
in full pads at the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice facility Tuesday afternoon.
Head
Coach Bo Pelini addressed the media after practice with news about a
season-ending injury to a Husker defender.
"Zaire
Anderson had a MRI on his ACL, and he will miss the rest of the year"
Pelini said. "It is unfortunate for him. He is really coming along, but it
is what it is, he will recover fully. It was a surprise to all of us."
Defensive
Coordinator John Papuchis address the media after Pelini with ideas about who
will replace Anderson at linebacker
"Right
now it is Alonzo (Whaley) and David Santos" he said. "We are going to
evaluate some young guys who were on the redshirt plan and see in emergency who
that would, maybe a Thomas Brown or Michael Rose, but I don't know if we are
ready to go down that road yet."
Papuchis
said Whaley has had a good attitude and has been a team leader throughout all
the changes lately at linebacker, and he knows Whaley will be ready to go.
Corey
Cooper's name was in the mix of replacing Anderson, but Papuchis said that he
would like Cooper to be in there on passing situations.
"The
Dime and Will spot are very similar, but if we got into a bind, he could be a
possibility there." Papuchis said.
Kickoff
between the Huskers and Bengals at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln is set for
Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (central) with live national television coverage from the
Big Ten Network.
