Huskers Turn Attention to UCLA

Lincoln - Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini and the Huskers met with members of the media Monday at Memorial Stadium to recap a Nebraska's 56-13 win over Southern Miss and NU's Saturday showdown with UCLA at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

The Huskers and Bruins each enter the game ranked in the top-25, while each team is also undefeated. Nebraska takes aim at its 11th straight win at Memorial Stadium and 15th consecutive win against a non-conference foe at home.

Nebraska and UCLA will be meeting for the 12th time overall, with Nebraska holding a 6-5 advantage in the series. Nebraska owns a 4-1 edge in games played in Lincoln, with the most recent game in Lincoln a 49-21 victory by No. 2 Nebraska over 13th-ranked UCLA in 1994. UCLA won last year’s matchup at the Rose Bowl, 36-30.

Pelini spoke about the challenges that UCLA's offense will bring to Lincoln.

"You have to lock up those receivers. You have to understand that he’s (Brett Hundley) is going to get out a couple times. He’s going to buy some time every now and then. At the end of the day, you have to have discipline. As long as he’s in the backfield and behind the line of scrimmage, he’s a passing threat. You have to be ready to lock up the receivers. If you are staring in the backfield too long at that point, you are going to get beat. You have to get in phase with your receivers and you have to get your hands on receivers and be disciplined in those situations. You try to simulate it the best you can in practice and have some scrambles happen in practice but it’s a constant emphasis for us.”

A full transcript of Pelini's session with the media, along with full quotes from junior I-Back Ameer Abdullah, senior defensive back Ciante Evans, senior offensive lineman Jeremiah Sirles and junior I-back Ameer Abdullah are available in the links below.
