Nebraska vs. Illinois
Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013
Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)
Senior Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase
On if they made changes to get the offense going
"No, not really. I think that second drive of the game we were moving the ball. We go down there and turn it over after getting inside the 30. In a situation like that, where you're getting things moving you want to take advantage of that momentum and capitalize."
On if the wind affected their passing game
"Yes, it's a little more difficult because of the wind. I don't think there was anything that they did that we didn't really expect. You have to be more aware of the shots you're going to take with conditions like that."
On whether Nebraska's pressure affected them
"Not really. I think they had a couple things that they did well. We took some chances on things, but it was something we expected. They're a pretty heavy pressure team. They've got some guys that are athletic enough to come off the edge. We just have to do a better job of slowing those up."
On if they could have competed had a few things gone better
"Yes, I think we could. I think if you get things rolling there early in the first quarter. If we come out and get points on the board, then it definitely makes a ball game. I don't think there will be a game that we'll be in this year that we won't have a chance to compete in and a chance to go out there and be able to get wins. It's just something that we've got to do a better job of believing in and executing out there on the field."
Senior Linebacker Jonathan Brown
On Ameer Abdullah
"He's no different in person than on film. He made a couple of great plays. He's everything that he was on film. Kudos to their offensive line. They definitely got some movement up front which allowed (Abdullah) to skate through, but he's a good back. He made a couple good plays. We missed a couple plays. It's just something we have to improve on, our tackling being probably one of the most important things. Don't get me wrong, he's a really good running back."
On the passing defense
"We have a lot of young guys in the secondary. We have to go back and watch this film and re-evaluate where everybody is in relation to being in space. That's something we have to improve on, finding receivers. They made a couple great plays. The one where Kenny Bell caught with one hand, that was an amazing play. I have to take my hat off to that one, but other than that it's just matching up, matching up with receivers. That's something we'll get better at. We have a week to get better at it."
Sophomore Running Back Josh Ferguson
On his receiving abilities
"Last year, I ran it mostly. I knew coming into this summer that receiving was something that I'd have to work on personally. I just appreciate the opportunities I get."
On if Nebraska's defense made it difficult for him to get a rhythm
"It was tough. It's nothing that we won't see for the rest of the season. We have to go back to the drawing board and be able to catch the blitzes. There was a lot of looks, a lot of blitzes, so more power to them."
