Pelini Impressed with Saturday Scrimmage

The Nebraska football team practiced in Memorial Stadium on Saturday, working out for just more than two hours in full pads. The majority of Saturday’s session consisted of the Huskers’ last major scrimmage before next Saturday’s Red-White Spring Game.

Head Coach Bo Pelini was impressed with the scrimmage which was about 100 plays. Pelini was happy with all the reps each player received.

“We got a lot of reps in (today), we mixed and matched guys a lot,” Pelini said. “We got a lot of guys reps and it was obvious to me that there are some guys that have come further than others.”

Pelini noted that so far this spring, he has been impressed with a lot of individual players, not just a position.

“To me it is more about individual guys that have really come in and done a good job,” Pelini said. “I think really the ones (starters) on both sides are doing some pretty good things.”

Pelini also added that he is really looking to build depth during the spring practice.

“What I am really trying to do is build depth right now, with the twos and some of the backups,” Pelini said. “Some of those guys are showing good progress and some aren’t.”

Junior defensive tackle Aaron Curry was injured during the scrimmage, prompting the medical staff to take precautionary measures in treating Curry. Pelini is optimistic that Curry will be fine.

“We think it is going to be similar to what (Ryne) Reeves went through. (Aaron) is going through his tests right now,” Pelini said. “Everything he has gone through so far looks ok. When he left he was starting to feel better.”

The Huskers will practice again Monday and Wednesday next week before next Saturday’s spring game which is set for 2 p.m. Tickets for the spring game remain available at 1-800-8-BIG RED. The game will be streamed live on BTN2Go and will be televised on tape delay by BTN at 7 p.m. next Saturday.
