Sophomore Robbie McEwen joined the Nebraska program in the fall of 2006 as a long snapper. McEwen previously spent his first two seasons of college at Drake University before transferring to Lincoln. McEwen will enter fall camp as a backup behind returning starter T.J. O’Leary and will make a bid for playing time.
McEwen redshirted after joining the Husker program from Drake University.
Before Nebraska (Chatfield HS/Drake)
McEwen attended Drake University in Des Moines for two seasons prior to transferring to Nebraska. He lettered in both 2004 and 2005 for the Bulldogs as a long snapper and defensive end. In 2004, Drake posted an 11-1 record and won the Pioneer Football League championships. In the season opener at Missouri State, McEwen was one of just three true freshman to make the travel squad.
McEwen was a standout football and baseball player at Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colo., earning four letters in both sports. He earned first-team all-conference and honorable-mention all-state honors on the football field. In baseball, he was the school’s top pitcher. McEwen also lettered in basketball and track. Following high school graduation, McEwen moved to North Platte, Neb., where he played legion baseball in the summer of 2004.
McEwen is the son of Bob and Cheri McEwen and was born on May 17, 1986. He is majoring in political science and carries a 3.821 cumulative grade-point average. McEwen was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during both the spring and fall semesters.
