Redshirt freshman Andy McNeil enters the fall looking to make a push for playing time in a talented Nebraska linebacking corps. McNeil redshirted during his first season in the program and worked on the scout team. He will enter the fall listed as a reserve in a group of linebackers that includes talented and experienced seniors Bo Ruud, Corey McKeon, Lance Brandenburgh and Steve Octavien.
McNeil redshirted and worked with the Husker scout team.
Before Nebraska (Skutt HS)
McNeil was a first-team all-state pick by the Nebraska Associated Press and a captain of the Omaha World-Herald’s all-Metro team during his senior season at Omaha Skutt Catholic High School. McNeil played a vital role in the Skyhawks capturing the 2005 Class B state title with a perfect 13-0 record. A member of three state playoff teams under former coach Matt Turman, a former Husker quarterback, McNeil started at both defensive end and offensive guard and earned three letters.
McNeil also lettered twice in track and once in wrestling during his prpe career.
Andy is the son of Barney and Julie McNeil, and was born on Nov. 6, 1987. He is majoring in management and volunteered his time with Nebraska’s local hospital visits.
