Tight end Dreu Young had his Nebraska career cut short by a lingering injury that sidelined him for all of the 2010 season. Young was a key part of the Nebraska offense in 2008 and 2009, bolstering a deep and talented group of tight ends. The Cozad, Neb., native appeared in 34 games in his career and made 13 starts. Originally a walk-on, Young was placed on scholarship before the start of the 2009 season.
A business administration major, Young is on track to pick up his degree in May of 2011.

2010 (Senior)
Young was forced to sit out his senior season with a back injury.

2009 (Junior)
Young underwent back surgery and missed the season opener, but played in each of the final 13 games, including nine starts when NU opened with two tight ends. Young caught five passes for 78 yards, including catches of 27 yards (Arkansas State) and 34 yards (Louisiana-Lafayette). He added single catches against Kansas, Kansas State and Colorado in the final three games of the regular season.

2008 (Sophomore)
Young saw action in all 13 games, including four starts. He caught nine passes for 140 yards, and his 15.6 yards per catch led all NU receivers. He opened the year with a career-long 55-yard catch against Western Michigan. Young caught a career-best two passes each against Texas Tech and Kansas State, and scored a nine-yard TD against the Red Raiders to tie the score at 24 in the fourth quarter. His blocking skills also helped Nebraska average more than 200 rushing yards over the second half of the year.

2007 (Redshirt Freshman)
Young played in eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2007. He had a 14-yard catch against Nevada.

2006 (Redshirt)
He redshirted in 2006.

Before Nebraska (Cozad HS)
Young was a key part of two state playoff qualifying teams for Coach Ron Bubak at Cozad High School. He starred at wide receiver and safety for the Haymakers, earning honorable-mention Class C-1 all-state honors as a senior. Young was a multi-sport standout, also earning honorable-mention all-state accolades in basketball, and lettered in track, baseball, golf and wrestling during high school. He was also the student body president and a member of the National Honor Society.

Dreu is the son of Marcus and Mindy Young, and was born on April 23, 1988. He has volunteered with several Husker team hospital visits. He was named to the 2009 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
