Ryan Ommert (pronounced OH-mert) provided depth at wide receiver, playing in four games during his Nebraska career. He made his only appearance as a senior against Texas A&M in 2003.
Ommert played against McNeese State and Kansas in 2002.
Ommert saw the first action of his career against Rice in 2001.
A walk-on, Ommert redshirted in his first season at Nebraska in 1999.
Before Nebraska (Cambridge HS)
Ommert was a versatile performer for Coach Dan Keyser at Cambridge High School, helping the Trojans to state championships each of his last three seasons. Ommert rushed for 975 yards, adding 300 receiving yards and 250 return yards as a senior. He was an all-state and all-conference pick as a junior and senior, and was the offensive captain of the Class C-2 all-state team as a senior. He also lettered three times in basketball and four times in track.
The son of Larry and Carol Ommert, Ryan was born on May 21, 1980. Ommert was a four-time selection to the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team, while volunteering his time with American Education Week, The Husker E-mail Literacy Program, the UNL Shadowing Program and Team Spirit Hospital visitations. Ommert was a member of the 2003 Football Unity Council.
A six-time selection to the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, Ommert earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in May 2004.
