2003 Outlook
Junior tight end Chris Septak hopes to make a contribution on the field this fall after spending most of his first three seasons at Nebraska plagued by injuries. Septak has battled various injuries since arriving at Nebraska in the summer of 2000, but went through spring ball in good health. He enters fall camp listed third at tight end behind Matt Herian and Phil Peetz.

Septak showed Husker coaches he was ready to contribute with a productive winter in the NU weight room. Septak scored more than 500 points on all four performance tests in post-winter conditioning and his Performance Index score was second among NU tight ends.

2002 (Sophomore)
Septak missed the entire season after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in mid-September.

2001 (Redshirt Freshman)
Septak was sidelined by a groin injury as a redshirt freshman.

2000 (Redshirt)
A highly recruited scholarship player, Septak redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Millard West HS)
Nebraska?s first commitment of the 2000 class, Septak was one of the nation?s top tight ends for Coach Dan McLaughlin (now a Nebraska GA) at Millard West. Septak was an All-America tight end by several recruiting services and was generally regarded as one of the nation?s top 10 tight end recruits. The Gatorade Nebraska Player of the Year, Septak garnered honorable-mention All-America accolades from USA Today.

Septak burst on the scene during his junior year with 32 catches for 789 yards (24.7 ypc) and 16 touchdowns, leading Millard West to the state finals. He excelled on both sides of the line of scrimmage as a senior, helping the Wildcats to their second straight state final appearance. He hauled in 12 passes for 200 yards and earned first-team All-Nebraska honors from both the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star as a defensive end. The LJS named him the state?s defensive player of the year. He finished his senior year with seven sacks despite suffering a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee during the state semifinals.
