Before Nebraska (Narbonne HS)

Smith earned first-team all-conference honors in the Marine League and third-team honors on the Long Beach Press Dream Team. He was an honorable-mention Las Vegas Sun Super 11 pick on offense.

Smith played just one game as a junior, when transferring between schools. He was also recruited by UNLV and Kansas State.
