The Nebraska football had an hour and half practice in the Hawks Championship Center on Saturday morning in preparation for its bowl game. While an official announcement has not been made regarding the bowl and the opponent, the Huskers are expected make a trip to Jacksonville, Fla., to play Clemson in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1.

“If that works out, and that’s where we end up, then we’ll be happy to be there,” Head Coach Bo Pelini said. “We look forward to playing in a bowl game, and it seems like that’s looking like what we’re going to be doing, and we’re excited about it. This team earned it, and we’re just looking forward to playing another game.”

The Huskers worked out in shoulder pads and helmets on Saturday morning, and Pelini said he mainly wants to keep his team fresh as its continue bowl practices.

“We’re keeping ourselves sharp, number one, and we’re doing some work with some younger guys too, kind of a pseudo-spring ball,” Pelini said. “But our number one focus has got to be to win the football game, and we have a good balance going as far as what we’re looking to accomplish.”

Pelini said his team still hasn’t played up to its full potential yet this year, and he’s looking forward to seeing if it can do it in the bowl game.

“I just think our best football is still out there,” Pelini said. “Even the Colorado game, I don’t think we played as well as I would have liked to. We left a lot of points out there on the field. There’s still a lot of work ahead of us, and I know that, the players know that. But they’re practicing hard. We’ve come a long way but there’s still a long way to go, so every day we’re together is a big deal. Every practice we can get helps us.”

The Huskers are tentatively scheduled to practice on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday next week.
