Steve Raymond appeared in 10 games during his career as a Husker. He recorded six tackles (four solo) and graduated from Nebraska as a member of its 1995 and 1997 national championship teams.

1999 (Senior)

Raymond served as a backup Sam linebacker for a third consecutive year, appearing in two games and recording one solo tackle.

1998 (Junior)

A former running back, Raymond played in four games as a backup Sam linebacker. He had three solo tackles, one each against Louisiana Tech, UAB and Washington. He broke his right wrist in the California game, and broke his left index finger in practices before the bowl game, but neither injury required surgery.

1997 (Sophomore)

As a reserve Sam linebacker, Raymond played in four games and had two assisted tackles, one against Akron and one against Iowa State. He made the switch from offense (running back) to defense (linebacker) in the spring.

1996 (Freshman)

Raymond did not see any game action his redshirt-freshman season.

1995 (Redshirt)

A walk-on, Raymond redshirted his first year in Nebraska.

Gering High School

Raymond played linebacker, defensive back, running back and quarterback for Gering High. He had more than 1,000 yards rushing as a junior, including 274 yards and four touchdowns against Torrington, Wyoming. He also had 105 return yards in that game and earned first-team all-state honors as a junior. A knee injury prevented Raymond from competing in his senior season. Raymond also earned two letters in basketball and four each in track and baseball. He earned all-state honors in track as a sophomore and senior and posted best times of 10.7 in the 100 meters, 22.5 in the 200 meters and 49.9 in the 400. He was a four-year honor roll member.


The son of James and Evelyn Raymond, Steve was born on April 3, 1976. Steve majored in business administration and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2000.
