2003 (Senior)
Jerrell Pippens was a key member of Nebraska's defense and special teams during his Husker career. NU's top backup at both safety spots in 2003, Pippens earned a Blackshirt late in the season after a career day at Kansas. Pippens also starred on four of NU's special teams units.

In 2003, Pippens played in all 13 games with a start against Kansas when NU opened in the nickel package. He led NU's non-starters with 50 tackles, including 28 solos, while adding five pass breakups. He had his best game at Kansas, after battling the flu throughout the day and arriving to the stadium late. He finished the game with a career-high 12 tackles, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and his second interception of the season in the first quarter. In the 2003 season opener against Oklahoma State, Pippens notched the only sack of his career, which also forced a Josh Fields fumble that was recovered by Ryon Bingham to set up an NU touchdown in a 17-7 win. Pippens had his first interception of the season at Southern Miss and added four tackles, a tackle for loss, a hurry and a breakup in the game.

On special teams, Pippens served as a bullet on punt coverage and blocked a Texas A&M extra point. He capped his NU career with four tackles, including a tackle for loss in Nebraska's 17-3 victory over Michigan State in the 2003 Alamo Bowl.

2002 (Junior)
Pippens played in every game last fall and finished the year with 33 tackles, including 16 solo stops. He was an integral part of Nebraska's kickoff and punt coverage teams. Along with DeJuan Groce, Pippens served as a gunner on punt coverage and was a key reason why Nebraska allowed an average of just 9.4 yards per return.

Pippens had an outstanding game in a return to his home state of Pennsylvania, matching his career-high with eight tackles at Penn State. He added four tackles each against Utah State and McNeese State.

2001 (Sophomore)
Pippens played in 11 games in 2001 on special teams (kickoff return, kickoff coverage, punt coverage) and as a backup free safety to Willie Amos. Pippens finished with 14 tackles, including eight solo stops. He had a career-high eight tackles vs. Rice, including five solo stops and made his only career TFL (one yard) vs. Iowa State. He made two solo tackles on special teams in the 2002 Rose Bowl against Miami.

2000 (Redshirt Freshman)
Pippens saw action in five regular-season games at free safety, and had one assisted tackle vs. Kansas. He made a season-high three tackles (all solo) in the 2000 Alamo Bowl vs. Northwestern.

1999 (Redshirt)
A former walk-on athlete, Pippens redshirted in 1999.

Before Nebraska (West Catholic HS)
Pippens played split end and free safety for Coach Dan Harrel at West Catholic High in Philadelphia. He played safety in the city all-star game, and earned second-team all-conference honors. He also earned three letters in track, claiming first-team all-state honors in the 400 meters and the 400 hurdles, ranking as one of the top 10 prep hurdlers in the nation in 1998.

Personal
The son of Cynthia Davis, Jerrell was born on June 30, 1980. Pippens also ran track early in his Husker career, and he earned his bachelor's degree in 2003.
