Lincoln--- The Nebraska football team practiced in full pads for two hours Wednesday in the Hawks Championship Center.  The Huskers are gearing up for a matchup with Arizona in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30.

Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson discussed the perspective they're taking in the practices leading up to the bowl game.

"It's been good," Watson said. "We've been approaching this like spring ball; give ourselves an opportunity to get the wind back in us. (It's important) to get guys back healthy. We've had good practices. It's been a spring-like mentality. The guys who started from the very beginning, we've started re-teaching (them) and taking our time going through things and working on a lot of fundamentals (with them)."

Watson welcomes the opportunity to get back to teaching fundamentals as a result of having more time to practice. Players have been able to get healthy and in return, increase competition. He sees a lot of competition continuing among the quarterbacks.

"We want to give looks to everybody," Watson said. "We're taking all three (Zac Lee, Cody Green and LaTravis Washington) of those guys and getting them a lot of reps, because we look at it like a spring ball. We get the opportunity to work with them, we've repped all three of them a lot."

Watson also commented on the importance of ending the season by fixing their mistakes after a heartbreaking loss to Texas in the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 5.

"We don't like the taste in our mouth," he said. "We have a lot of work to do, a lot of improvements. We're humbled by what we have to do. We just have to go to work. The guys have done a nice job. Barney (Cotton) is taking the line back to the beginning, back to all the little things you can do in spring practice because you aren't caught in a time crunch. That helps. Fundamental practices help at all positions."

The Huskers will return to the practice field on Friday afternoon. Check back to Huskers.com for more updates on the Nebraska football team as they gear up for the Holiday Bowl.
