Lincoln – University of Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook announced Monday that Lauren Cook and Morgan Broekhuis (pronounced brook-hise) have enrolled in school for the start of the winter semester, which began today.
Cook, a 5-foot-8 setter, transferred to Nebraska from UCLA, and will have three years of eligibility, while Broekhuis, a 6-foot-5 right side hitter/setter, graduated from Colorado Springs Christian High School last month and enrolled early for her freshman year.
Cook started 32 matches at UCLA last season, helping the Bruins to a 24-9 record and a No. 14 final ranking. The AVCA National Freshman of the Year, she averaged 10.69 assists, 2.44 digs, 0.77 kills and 0.40 blocks per set. Cook was the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and an honorable-mention all-conference pick, as she totaled 16 double-doubles and finished among team leaders in both aces (21, third) and digs (fourth). She was a three-time all-state selection at Lincoln Pius X High School and the Andi Collins Award winner for the nation’s top high school senior setter in 2008.

She was named Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year for the second straight year in 2009, as she totaled 465 kills and 411 assists in a 6-2 offense. She was an AVCA High School All-American and played in the Under Armour High School All-America match in Tampa last month. She was a three-time state tournament MVP, leading Colorado Springs Christian to four straight state titles. Broekhuis, the No. 2 player in the country by Prepvolleyball.com, was the Denver Post Player of the Year in 2009 and a three-time Denver Post Class 3-A Player of the Year.
The Huskers return six starters from a team that went 26-7 and finished fifth in the final AVCA poll, including All-Americans Sydney Anderson, Brooke Delano and Tara Mueller.
