Lincoln Nebraska freshman Morgan Broekhuis (pronounced brook-hise) was honored Friday, as she was named ESPN RISE National Volleyball Player of the Year.

Broekhuis, who began classes at NU on Monday, earned the award after leading Colorado Springs Christian to a 30-0 record and a fourth straight state title. On the year, she totaled 465 kills, 411 assists, 40 blocks, 167 digs and 30 aces as Colorado Springs Christian dropped four sets all season.

A two-time Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year, she was an AVCA High School All-American and was recently chosen as a first-team All-American by Volleyball Magazine. Broekhuis was a three-time state tournament MVP, and three-time Denver Post Class 3-A Player of the Year.

It is the second straight year a Husker freshman was named High School Player of the Year, as Gina Mancuso was the Gatorade and Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year in 2008.
