Dykstra and Simpson Earn National Honors

Lincoln - Two members of Nebraska's 2010 signing class recently earned honors for their prep success. Lara Dykstra, who enrolled at Nebraska in January, and Taylor Simpson, who will join the Huskers in August, were each named to Volleyball Magazine's FAB 50 list and were selected as High School All-Americans by

Dyksta graduated from Redondo Union High School early and is set to participate in the Huskers' upcoming spring drills. She was named CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) Division I-AA Player of the Year in 2010, was an Under Armour Girls' High School All-America Watch List pick and was honored as an ESPN RISE Volleyball All-America Honorable-Mention selection. Dykstra led the Sea Hawks to a Harbor League title in 2010 with a 29-8 record and carried the team to the state semi-finals, as she led the team in kills (481), blocks (50), digs (456) and aces (47). She is also one of the top young sand players in the country, as she and teammate Rebecca Strehlow finished ninth at the 2010 FIVB Beach Youth World Championships in Porto, Portugal, after entering the tournament as the No. 24 seed.

Simpson's All-America selection is the second of her career, as she also earned the honor in 2009. A product of Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., Simpson was named the No. 9 player in the country in 2010 by, was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American game at the 2010 Final Four and was an ESPN RISE Volleyball All-America Honorable-Mention pick. Selected as the Colorado High School Class 5A Player of the Year in 2009, Simpson played on the 2010 U.S. Youth Olympic Team that finished second in Singapore. She led the Americans in scoring at the tournament, including 11 kills, six blocks and an ace in the final match against Belgium. This past season, Simpson led Doherty to a 22-8 record and a trip to the 5A state semifinals, as she totaled 471 kills (5.0 per set), 60 blocks, 312 digs and 21 aces.

Even though the Huskers' spring schedule is not yet complete, they have announced a April 16 home match against Iowa State. The match is set for 7 p.m. at the NU Coliseum and will be played on the same day as the football team's spring game.
