Kelsey Fien (pronounced FEEN) earned playing time in 14 matches as a freshman • Named one of the top-20 players in the country by Prepvolleyball.com coming out of high school • Her physicality and work ethic add depth to the outside hitter position for the Huskers • Displayed solid improvement over the course of her freshman season and will continue to improve physically during her time at Nebraska.
"Kelsey has probably been the most improved player physically and with her work on the court over the last year," Head Coach John Cook. "She has worked really hard in the weight room and has been working on her mental game as well. Kelsey is a big, strong outside hitter and has a great opportunity to help us and make a major contribution this year."
Played in 14 matches as a freshman • Recorded a career-high five kills against Michigan State on Nov. 3 • Recorded 21 kills, eight digs and three blocks on the season.
Fien came to the Huskers from Frontier High School in Bakersfield, Calif. • Named the No. 19 senior in the country by Prepvolleyball.com and among the top five volleyball recruits in California • Was a 2011 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection • Chosen as one of Prepvolleyball.com’s Senior Aces • Led her high school and club team with her natural athletic ability • Has impressive range and power as an attacker and the physicality to control the net as a blocker • Nominated for the Under Armour All-America team and Gatorade Player of the Year in California • Led Frontier High School to a 25-12 record in 2011 • Totaled 429 kills, while notching 403 digs and recorded 56 blocks as a senior • Was the first player in her high school’s history to record 1,000 career kills • Honored as a special mention All-American by Prepvolleyball.com following her senior year at Frontier High School • Named to Prepvolleyball.com’s Top-50 Junior list after producing 446 kills, 46 blocks and 289 digs in 2010 • Played with the Bakersfield Volleyball Club.
