Lincoln - University of Nebraska guard Brandon Richardson was honored by the Big Ten Conference as one of 12 Sportsmanship Award winners in conjunction with the All-Big Ten Men's Basketball Team Monday evening.

Richardson has shined on and off the court for the Huskers this season. The 6-0 senior guard from Los Angeles averages 7.1 points, 3.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game heading into this week's Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. He ranks third in the league in steals, sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8-to-1) and 13th in assists for Nebraska.

Richardson ranks on Nebraska career top-10 list in both free throw percentage (.827, third) and steals (145, eighth). He had a career-high 25 points in the win over Iowa on Jan. 26, one of eight double-figure performances this season. Off the court, he is on pace to graduate with a degree in sociology this May.

The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
